If you're seeking an unforgettable place for your wedding, give the historic Moffitt Manor of southern Tennessee a glance. Just steps away from charming central Altamont, the Manor offers ample space appropriate for a wedding. This fully-renovated home was built in 1885 and stands on a solid acre of green Tennessee mountain grandeur.
You'll also find several ideal backdrops for your wedding photos on-site, including various rooms rich in period architecture, an elegant staircase, eight ornate fireplaces, a gracefully covered balcony, a grand entrance with picturesque pillars, as well as delicate antiques and intricate wall coverings. Note: If you didn't bring a photographer along, we've included a full page of professional area photographers on this site for you to contact.
For two full days, you'll have access to:
Six spacious and fully restored bedrooms
Two and ¾ bathrooms
Three tastefully appointed parlors
A fully-equipped and pristine kitchen
A traditionally furnished library
Enjoy the entire space yourselves, or consider inviting guests to enjoy the space with you and your beloved since the Manor comfortably sleeps up to 12 people.
For some additional space and possible variation in your photo session, there's also a rustic log cabin located outside the Manor. Previously used as a courthouse as well as a honeymoon cottage, the space measures 20'x 32' and has a living room, bedroom, bathroom, and fireplace of its own.
If you're interested, there are options for refreshments during your 2-day stay at the Manor. Choose between two types of homemade meals, the Tennessee Gourmet Meal and the Tennessee Country Meal. Each serving up to 8 guests, both meals feature organic chicken, locally homegrown garden vegetables, freshly-made southern sweet tea, and a fruit pie from the local Mennonite community bakery. Speak with the owner at the time of your reservation for details.
If you'd rather dine out or cater the event yourself, there are many dining options within a short ride of the Manor. We've included a few suggestions in our area activity guide below.
Once the two-day wedding rental concludes, you and your guests may wish to explore the outlying region before making your way home. Here are a few of our favorite area activities and events for your trip planning convenience:
Short Mountain Distillery
Within an hour's drive of the Manor, you and your guests will arrive at Short Mountain Distillery of Woodbury. With a rich history dating back to the days of Prohibition and beyond, Short Mountain makes authentic and original Tennessee moonshine, whiskey, and other spirits on their 400-acre farm. Book a tour, tasting, or cocktail class for your group, or stop in for the restaurant. Mouthwatering options like pulled pork crostini, pimento mac-n-cheese, fried green tomatoes, and ½-pound burgers with parmesan fries adorn the menu at this fine establishment. They also serve breakfast (Bourbon French toast, anyone?) and an extensive selection of Shine Cocktails and Aged Spirit Cocktails to boot.
Phelp's Farm
Approximately 2 hours from the Manor and 1 ½ from Short Mountain Distillery stands the fun and lively Phelp's Farm. Get in on a horseback riding lesson or trail ride, sign up for a welding or art class, learn about farming, or just hang out with the colorful resident chickens. Don't miss a visit to the unique gift shop before you leave! Give them a call ahead to make sure your favorite activities are available, and the weather outlook is positive: 404.312.5095.
The Southern Oven
Twelve miles from the doorstep lands you and your wedding party at the Southern Oven. Here you'll find all meals plus dessert are served. The expansive menu offers tasty home-cooked options like omelets, waffles, French toast, and biscuits with gravy for breakfast. Lunch includes hamburgers (fresh, not frozen), country fried steak, and shoestring fries, while dinner is sirloin or rib-eye steak plates with baked potatoes, pork chops, huge salads, and shrimp. They also have a bevy of homemade desserts to die for (Get the banana pudding if they have it)! Open 7 am to 7 pm weekdays, 8 am to 7 pm Saturdays. Closed Sundays. Plan for large portions!
Swiss Historical Society
Only 12 minutes' drive from Altamont is the Swiss Historical Society of Gruetli-Laager, which was initially developed to commemorate the Swiss who settled in the region around the year 1869. While the main festival takes place the last Saturday of July, there are other events scheduled throughout the year, so give their calendar a gander while planning your trip. Music, traditional food and drinks, children's activities, wine tastings, arts and crafts, a museum, and hayrides are all possibilities here. The home was Renovated in the fall of 2019 upgrading the electrical and heating systems, the home boasts eight fireplaces, elegant furnishings, and is tastefully decorated. The Manor, built-in 1885 by General Adrian Northcutt, has quite a history surrounding it, and due to that rich history, the property is sometimes referred to as the House of Fortune. It seems some of the prior residences were quite well off. One of those residents Miss Fannie Moffitt, for whom the Manor is named, a descendant of the Northcutt family inherited the house as well as several thousand acres surrounding land. Miss Moffitt died in 1962, and since that time, the property has been used for numerous purposes, including bed and breakfast. The surrounding property is just as amazing as the house itself. Located on the property is another building of historical significance. A 20' X 32' log cabin that was once the county courthouse now houses a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and fireplace. In more recent years, the cottage has been used as a honeymoon cabin and is a beautiful contrast to the Stately Manor.
