As your Honeymoon Escape winds down, you may feel like exploring the outlying region a bit before heading home -- and you'd be wise to do so! This area is chock full of enough events and activities to entertain every personality type and then some. Here are just a few of our favorites to help you plan your visit:
Ole Smoky Distillery
For a fun atmosphere and some great food and moonshine tasting, you and your sweetie should schedule in a stop at Ole Smoky. You'll find plenty to keep your senses alive here, from the big-screen TVs, live music, and brewery to the distillery, quality merchandise, and hot chicken truck in back (Warning: it's HOT! Grab an ice water to wash it down if you aren't used to heat...or even if you are!) Up for a little competition? Grab a bean bag and indulge in some backyard-style corn hole, or try your skill at free throw shooting, bocce ball, and more.
Johnny Cash Museum
A must-see for any bonafide fan of the Man in Black, this museum features the most expansive collection of Mr. Cash's memorabilia on the globe. Be sure you set aside enough time for a decent self-guided tour, about 1 - 2 hours, and there are a cafe and coffee shop for the hungry and thirsty. *Note: Rumor has it there's a Johnny Cash cover band that plays at the nearby Johnny Cash Kitchen. Don't leave before checking them out, and make sure you spend some time in the gift shop as well. The Cash family has officially endorsed this collection.
The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel
About 3 ½ hours west of the Manor, you'll find Pigeon Forge and the beautiful Great Smoky Mountain Wheel. Board the renowned and romantic Wheel to be lifted 200 feet above the majestic Smoky Mountains from the center of The Island, a newly constructed shopping and dining venue at the bustling city's center. The Wheel lights up beautifully after dark. Fancy a climate-controlled VIP gondola for the trip? Set one aside for a little extra, or opt for the regular Wheel for standard adult admission.
The Melting Pot
If you're ready for some fine dining, take a ride just seven miles outside of Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg's Melting Pot. Choose from a romantic cheese fondue with fruits, vegetables, cured meats, and nibbles of artisan bread, or opt for a 4-course dining experience complete with such delicacies as cold water lobster tail, fresh asparagus, garlic-pepper sirloin steak, or wild mushroom Sacchetti. Dessert, anyone? Check the dessert wine menu or go for the chocolate fondue this time.
